Hello,
unfortunately I don't own the PS3Eye, so I can't give it a shot right away
(I'll try to get my hands on it in the next few days)...
As I'm not familiar with openframeworks, I'll probably take me some time to get
familiar with it and get it built (I'm not using XCode, so I'll see if that is
a problem).
When I have the camera in my reach, I'll give it a shot, however given the
amount of the free time that I have, I can't promise any deadlines...
I'll keep you posted,
Michal

Hi,
I started to play with it; I'm going to use the PS3EYEDriver, as it is better
for me (doesn't bring any additional dependences as libusb is already in). I
got it compile, now it is a matter of writing some scaffolding around it and it
should work.
Next step will be device setup GUI pane for ltr_gui.
I'll keep you posted...
Kind regards,
Michal

Hi,
I'm soory it is taking that long, but it seems that the newer version of the
PS3Eye that I own changed the protocol a bit, so it works for a bit and then it
stops, so it is not really usable. The same is happening on Linux, so I have to
dive a bit deeper to find out what exactly is going on in there and that is why
it is taking me that long...
Kind regards,
Michal

Hello, I too have a PS3Eye and since macam doesn't work properly anymore on anything newer than Mountain Lion, I can't manage to make Linux Tracker work. Can I help in any way? I'm willing to test, I am a web developer so I think I could figure something out about the Linux Tracker source and integration with ofxPs3EyeGrabber if needed. Thank you for your great job by the way!
Hello, I did play with the PS3Eye a bit before, but I experienced some strange behavior (not only on Mac, but on Linux with its built in driver), that corrupted the frames, so it worked for a few seconds and then there were several seconds long pauses filled with corrupted data...
I got carried away with other tasks, but during the holidays I should be able to investigate a bit deeper...
I'll let you know as soon as I have something. Kind regards,
Michal
Hello, I would also be interested in this if it is likely that there can be any progress. I use a PS3Eye on the Windows side and it seems to work a lot better than the Wiimote for me.
Hello, I'm sorry it is taking that long, but there were some strange problems I encountered with the PS3EYEDriver - not sure if it is caused by the fact, that I have the newer hardware revision, but the tracking was very unstable with several second long pauses... Then I decided to start from the Linux kernel driver, which worked fine, but I got distracted by some real world stuff; anyway, probably during the next week I should be able to start working on it again and I'll keep you posted... Kind regards, Michal
Any news on this? If you could share your progress @uglyDwarf, I could pick it up from where you left it. Thanks!
Hello, I think I have the code prepared (it does compile), I just have to give it a bit of testing and see if it works. I also want to check that there aren't any image "dropouts" or damaged frames that I saw when trying that ps3eyedriver... Will report back, Michal
Hello, the code seems to work on Linux, but I found out that my Snow Leopard won't boot anymore (kernel panic during the boot), so I'll have to move the build environment to my new mini, which means I'll have to build on 10.11... If things go well, during the next few days I should have the thing compiled; what I'm not sure is how hard the wine compilation is going to be (had some problems way back when trying to compile on 10.8), but that should be "work-aroundable"... Will keep you posted... Kind regards, Michal
I too am interested in this. I'm quite happy to see any activity at all on this issue.
One idea that I had was to run the ps3 eye on a Linux box and send the mouse events over the network. I don't know if any of the components involved can handle a remote machine like that. My guess is that mickey running on macos might be able to be made to talk to a linuxtrack instance on a Linux box.
Of course native support for the whole stack on osx would be best, but if my proposed workaround is feasible, I'd like to give it a shot too.
Any news on this?
Hello, losing ability to boot anything below 10.11 I was trying to get at least the 10.10 SDK, but so far no joy... So at the moment I'm concentrating on getting the 10.11 build done (battling with the Qt - build throws and error on some OpenGL header after about an hour of compilation)... If I manage to get the older SDK, I'll try to get it at least 10.10 compatible (maybe 10.8, will see how it goes)... Will keep you posted, Michal
Hello, No luck so far? I would be happy to help with the build if you give me some instructions. I have a Macbook pro 10.11.16 El Capitan. Thanks
Hello, during the week I managed to compile the whole thing, I just didn't have the time to play with it - as soon as the children fall asleep, I'm going to see if it works and how... From my testing on Linux it looks like it should work, just some resolution/framerate combinations look like they corrupt the image, so they aren't usable for the tracking... Will report back, Michal
Hello, here is the first shot - http://linuxtrack.eu/test/linuxtrack-0.99.19hid.dmg What works: most 320x340 resolutions work, just the 100Hz+ seem to have problems only 640x480@15FPS seem to work - will investigate What is missing: wine support - if you need the wine support, please use the older Linuxtrack package to extract TrackIR firmware and install the Linuxtrack-wine bridge... Kind regards, Michal
Hi,
I've been away from this for quite a while and just noticed this support for the PSeye. It works great for me so far, thank you!
