Create fork under different name? #301

Hi all, I've been using the old version of the app that I had gotten from the old website. I think it's a phenomenal piece of software, but it seems like it's no longer maintained. Seeing as there are so many people that are capable of compiling it from scratch, does it not make sense to have a fork of this project under a different name, and distribute binaries? Is this repo maintained at all?

There were these comments from about a year ago.

I would like to see this as well. This is still by far the best pomodoro app I have used.

goetzchr commented 10 years ago

+1 from me as well

I love the app and binaries would be sweet. At the moment I'm using the app on MacOSX 10.9 from within Xcode, because I can't export the binary (https://github.com/ugol/pomodoro/issues/300)

FWIW @ugol, I've been promoting the hell out of this project to HabitRPG users in our "guilds" (for topics like ADHD, coding, business, etc). People get really hyped, and then most of them bail at the installation step. This project is not ready to die, it's vastly superior to the alternatives out there (I've tried many). This puppy needs to get back into the App Store one way or another. Honestly, I dare say I think you should just put it back up there, even if you don't plan to maintain it - it's free cash for you, and easy installation for the rest of us. But if that's rubbing you / others wrong, then I agree with this thread - get this project into someone else's hands so it can thrive

All, I am ready to redistribute the pomodoro under a different name, all the preliminary work is done.

I need only someone designing a new icon.

The icon should NOT be a pomodoro, and should NOT be red.

My idea is to call the new timer "pumpkin", so an orange pumpkin would do that. Is there any professional artist here?

lmk :)

Great to see the renewed interest in this! The new name and color scheme are definitely very well chosen. However, I would argue that the most immediate step should be to have a version out there that works reasonably well. With a random grey timer icon, if need be. I'm sure somebody with artistic skills will volunteer eventually, but I'd hate to see the progress stalled because of something trivial like an icon.. My 2 cents..

Awesome this is great news!

Any updates? I just search 'pumpkin' on the apple store with no luck

martakostova commented 10 years ago

Guys, here is a maintained fork under different name - it is called Timer for now, but new design is coming. https://github.com/martakostova/pomodoro

Cheers!

goetzchr commented 10 years ago

Does your fork work on Mavericks without problems?

martakostova commented 10 years ago

yes

goetzchr commented 10 years ago

sadly it doesn't :( I added an issue https://github.com/martakostova/pomodoro/issues/11

@ugol I just revisited this app after settling on a new task management solution (text file + text expander), and this is so useful. I can run an applescript that changes my desktop wallpaper, launches the file(s) I need to work on, starts this timer, and, on completion, logs the progress in my file(s)…and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of the possibilities. (This timer can do so much with applescript, I'd almost suggest an apple-pie icon.) I hope you can get the project mainstream again, and I'm subscribing to this thread in case there's news on your new pumpkin timer... (or is the Timer fork taking over officially?)
