Investigate potential improperly generated two color PNGs from SVG files #29

Jake brought up the fact that some icons have some visual distortions when downloaded in the PNG format. However upon inspecting the original SVGs from https://brand.uiowa.edu/sites/brand.uiowa.edu/files/2022-05/IOWA-Icon-Set-Two-Color-0524-22.zip, the distortions seem to have originated from the source material.

I'm going to follow up with Jake and have him confirm that the following icons have distortions in their original form:

I'll keep this issue open until we can confirm everything's being generated correctly.

Emailed Jake and Sondra:

Hey Jake, Sondra,

I was poking at the icons we were looking at this morning and it looks like the one and two color SVGs found within the zip files may actually have those line distortions. The PNGs in the zip file on brand.uiowa.edu, however seem fine. I've attached the two color clean-water.svg and mouse.svg directly sourced from the two color zip file on brand.uiowa.edu to this email and they look like they have the same errors we saw this morning.

We generate the PNGs from the SVGs and so any errors in the SVG will carry over.

Can ya'll confirm that the distortions in line width are appearing on your copies of the SVGs (both one-color, two-color)? The PNG versions in the zip file seem fine, but unless I've royally messed up my files somehow, I can't actually find the correct copies of the one/two color SVGs anywhere...

Thanks! Dustin

It looks like this is an issue with the SVG export from Adobe Illustrator and not an issue with this app.

So, something must be weird with that old export, because the master files don’t appear that way, and when I export the icons with this known issue, they don’t appear that way on the new SVGs.
