Discussion about "Everything you always wanted..." #1

Hi, @uit-inf-3203/students !

Here is the list of topics/questions to the first paper "Everything you always wanted to know about synchronization but were afraid to ask" that Adrian is going to present next Monday. If your name is after the question you're held responsible come Monday.

  1. Uniform architecture. The results in the paper show that a uniform architecture have higher scalability of synchronization than a non-uniform one, are there ways of making a non-uniform scale better than a uniform one or will the uniform one always scale better? Jarl Fagerli
  2. Is there a scenario where a uniform architecture for a system using synchronization would be out of the question, why, why not? Tommy Skaue Øines
  3. How many cores and sockets can we add to a system without making the scalability of synchronization for the system worthless? Johannes Arctander Larsen
  4. Is there any other way of interpreting the statement: "Scalability of Synchronization is mainly a property of the hardware"? Saeed Shariati
  5. What do you think are some ways of making synchronization across sockets (where it's necessary) scalable? Peter Halland Haro

If anything is unclear, please leave a comment below!

The individual held responsible for a given question is only obliged to ask this one question?

fjukstad commented 9 years ago

No, the individual is responsible for figuring out an answer so that we can get a small discussion in class.
