WiFi blocked completely on Pixel XL and Android 9.0 #935

using AFWall+ v3.0.4 donate on three devices, Pixel, Pixel XL and and LGV20 running on Android Pie for both Pixel devices and Oreo for the LGV20. very strange issue I'm facing on the Pixel XL where network/Internet is completely unreachable if AFWall+ is enabled. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, as well as enabling AFWall+ where everything is default and still the same issue. this is not happening on the other two devices at all even after replicating the same preferences over from either device to the Pixel XL. as soon as it's enabled WiFi access is down and device resorts to mobile data, which works fine. any suggestions??

EDIT: all 3 devices are rooted with Magisk 18.0

I'm also experiencing the same issue on a OnePlus 5 running LineageOS 16 and rooted with Magisk 18.0. Any ideas how to debug the problem?
