This has been sitting here undocumented for awhile. We really should clean it up.

I cleared out a lot of untested and probably unused code in this commit: 1ef1b2c097d41a02d23f642262fbe4ffc65a3ca8

This included the C4G code. If/when we need it again (which we probably will), we should write it up cleanly.
