It works fine for headings, but hyperlink syntax links to figures and tables jumps to the top of the document in pdf rather than to the content.

Seems to be an RMarkdown issue.

Just checked up on this - it seems to be working fine. Might have just been an issue in rmarkdown at the time which has since been fixed.
