Regression in UX for Create-dialog #16669

Open enkelmedia opened 11 months ago

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. When testing out preview--002 of Bellissima I'm noticing that the "create new item"-experience has degraded compared to the Umbraco 12-version.

Notice here how the dialog to choose what to create shows up on the right side of the screen forcing me to travel with my eyes and the mouse over to that part of the screen:

create-items-dialog

Here I really think that the behavior from Umbraco 12 is a lot better where the Create-action is the default for the "dots"-icon and where the options show up in a list to the right of the tree:

@iOvergaard @nielslyngsoe After playing around even more with the latest main-branch I really think that this issue should be considered. Especially thinking about editors that spend many hours every day in the backoffice.

It's really frustrating having to drag eyes and mouse from the left to the right side to choose doc-type and then back to the left to set the name. I think that this will also relevant for things like sorting, move, copy etc. These actions are performed in the context of the menu/tree and it does not make sense showing them in a modal to the right. While the right sidebar modal does make sense when inserting links and uploading images in the context of working in the "main area". It feels like there is an extension/area missing here.

I have the same experience with the "Import" and "Export"-features that are implemented for dictionaries. Maybe there is a good reason that the sidebar-modal is used for all of these cases but if not it would be better to address this now than when almost everything is implemented using the right sidebar.

Hi @enkelmedia

We are aware, its a missing feature for now. It will most likely be postponed til very late as it is not feature wise important but ofcourse something that should be fixed before Content Managers starts using it.

Hi there @enkelmedia!

Firstly, a big thank you for raising this issue. Every piece of feedback we receive helps us to make Umbraco better.

We really appreciate your patience while we wait for our team to have a look at this but we wanted to let you know that we see this and share with you the plan for what comes next.

We wish we could work with everyone directly and assess your issue immediately but we're in the fortunate position of having lots of contributions to work with and only a few humans who are able to do it. We are making progress though and in the meantime, we will keep you in the loop and let you know when we have any questions.

Thanks, from your friendly Umbraco GitHub bot :robot: :slightly_smiling_face:
