Get an error when adding users #681

Open bwhalen664 opened 1 year ago

Issue description

The issue is when you invite someone in portal first and they create a user, then create another user through backoffice, this error appears "User has exceeded the maximum number for retries for a self-asserted step." Invite through one of the options, nothing happens, and then invite through other option and it gives the error message. It's a unique invite error for the same user.

Thank you for reporting the issue you've encountered. To ensure we fully understand the problem and can work on a solution, could you please confirm that the following steps accurately represent the issue you're experiencing?

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Invite User Through Portal: Start by inviting a user to join through the portal.
    • Navigate to the portal's user invitation section.
    • Enter the user's email address and send the invitation.
  2. User Accepts Invitation: The invited user should accept the invitation and complete the account creation process on the portal.
  3. Create User Through Backoffice:
    • Log in to the Umbraco backoffice.
    • Navigate to the Users section.
    • Attempt to create a new user with the same email address as the one invited through the portal.

Upon performing these steps, you encounter an error message stating, "User has exceeded the maximum number of retries for a self-asserted step."

Is this correct?

To avoid encountering this error, you should not create a new user in the backoffice for someone who has already been invited through the portal. Instead, you should simply send an invitation to the user to join the backoffice. This will prevent the error from occurring and ensure a smoother user onboarding process.

Please confirm if the steps to reproduce are accurate and let us know if you have any further questions or need additional clarification.

  1. Yes
  2. User fills out invitation fields. Then they get this error: User has exceeded the maximum number for retries for a self-asserted step.

Based on what you've described, it seems like the invite has already been accepted, so the user should be set up and ready to participate in the cloud project. If this isn't the case, please reach out to our customer support team. They have the tools to delve into the specific details of the situation and will assist you accordingly.
