A university project that aims at digitally presenting a portion of Heinrich Glarean’s Dodekachordon in a way that satisfies the needs of a scholarly edition and harnesses the power of web publishing
Problem: There should be a way to display musical examples in both modern and original notation, with the option to listen to the music. These examples should appear in their original location in the text.
Proposed solution: One way of approaching this would be a sort of tabbed widget in the text, with one tab for modern music and one for the original notation. I would suggest showing the original as (series of) images from the source, since that best preserves the original complexity. The modern transcription should be Verovio-rendered MEI. The fact that this would be presented as a "window" naturally suggests a paginated display, which would also help in preserving the reading flow. The controls for listening to the (midi) recording could be placed under the tabbed window, so that it is available no matter the version the reader chooses.
