[UMMZ Birds 79970] Pericrocotus brevirostris brevirostris - Identification Confirmation #71

Is it possible to recheck the identification of this series of specimens attributed to Koelz vis a vis Pericrocotus [brevirostris] ethologus which is now a full species? Bird of South Asia does not include Himachal in the range of brevirostris - and it was once lumped with ethologus which is widespread in Himachal.

Yes, Pam Rasmussen can check them but not until January. I hope that is ok as I don't have the expertise that she does.

Ofcourse - no issues.

However, there is a fair chance that those specimens were online-cataloged incorrectly and the tags might have the correct names. If that be the case case, a re-examination of the skins may not be required - just tag verification might do.

You are correct. These were originally identified as b. brevirostris (by Koelz I think by the handwriting) but this was crossed out by R W Storer and ethologus favillaceus written in.
