If we use semitransparent colors for backgrounds it can make the interface more native for many sites because it will adjust to site colors.

I like the idea of "automatic adjustment" based to the background, but "After" should be tweaked to be visually closer to before, i.e. the actual edit box should be darker and the outside part brighter
