I think email is still the right way to go for people submitting bugs, but this is usually the interaction we have:
We get an email, no subject, complaint about a problem, not enough information to investigate
We reply with a request for more information
Radio silence.
mailto: links can have URL parameters that specify the subject and even the body. The app as it's running on the phone knows its platform and version, perhaps we could pre-fill some of that information? Not all mail clients support it, but it couldn't hurt to try to get a bit more information up-front.
