So what could happen to one who broke this license? Dead?

I think if somebody already had death wish, this LICENSE could change nothing.

I hope this LICENSE could be more than just a statement of "I wouldn't kill myself". People need to take care of each other, so no one will feel helpless when they felled into an abyss.

unbug commented 7 years ago

@reinit I heard those people who committed suicide only take about 5 minutes to make the decision. I believe any reminder within the 5 minutes could save their life.

The license is only a reminder. I hope an Open Sources License could be a better reminder for developers, it's special and just work for developers, we developers will keep it in mind, so it helps.

I hope you understand the idea of the license is to help developers self prevent suicide accident.

But feel free to contribute to the repo if you have any better idea.

@unbug I'm not doubting your kindness. I really hope actions like this can revive some people's "colden" heart and give other people a hand.

But in real world, it take more than just a license / reminder to actually save somebody who in desperation.

So, I got a suggestion, if you may:

Many of people commit suicide is because they're lost their hope, but there may be a way out they don't know.

Maybe encourage them to get some help from the right people could resolve their problem thus saving them? I know a lot people who canceled their suicidal idea by doing that.

@reinit That's great. I do think we need add more information in the readme file. And I am thinking about add a list of developer who has committed suicide, but I don't know is it a right thing to do. I've create another issue (https://github.com/unbug/snts/issues/3)

@unbug I think I should be more clear.

I mean "Get help", not "Just talk to" as what current LICENSE says.

If you want someone to help you, you may need to clarify your situation and your feelings, tell others you're in critical condition.

On the other hand, "talk" does not require any of that, some people may too shy too tell the truth about themselves.

It's hard to put it on paper though, you may need to give it some thought.

@reinit That's the terms NO.2:

  1. When you are in despair, just talk to someone you trust, someone you love. Getting help from your family, your friends, the police, the community, the public.

How to do it is case by case, I don't think we should add that to the license.

I also heard the news. It's really sad.

Developers are usually focused on logic and do not good at dealing with Muggles (who doesn't have technical knowledge). When a public relations crisis happened, It's always been the developers who took the blame for others.

As Camus said in The Myth of Sisyphus

“I see many people die because they judge that life is not worth living. I see others paradoxically getting killed for the ideas or illusions that give them a reason for living (what is called a reason for living is also an excellent reason for dying).” Instead of just talk to someone, I think it should be see a psychiatrist for professional advices.

I'm not sure the LICENSE work or not, but I know how the depressing feels like. We indeed need to help each other. So I forked it and translated it to Chinese. When one day that moment comes, it maybe reminder me, Man is not made for defeat, you always have another choice.

@Artwalk That's great! I've add it to the translations section.
