Discovery #61

In the Architecture section the diagram shows that the DPP process is started with a scan of a 2D barcode on the exterior of the 'box'. Must this always be the case?

Can discovery be initiated via a protocol (ie no barcode)?

And should there be 'Discovery' section as part of the standard?

mxshea commented 2 months ago

Please disregard the 'Should there be a discovery section'...

The source of this question, is, a physical barcode could be removed/damaged over time, particularly for long lived items, and how does discovery happen in these circumstances?

By "discovery", do you mean "data carrier"? (In DPP lingo)

nissimsan commented 1 month ago

Viginia clarification: In case the data carrier is destroyed, can we find a secondary way to find the DPP?

nissimsan commented 1 month ago

Peter: this is a know issue, e.g. when barcodes are on packaging which is thrown away. No known, easy solution. Identifiers and data carrier must be loosely coupled.

Central registries seem like the only viable solution. Questionable if this is part of this spec. I propose closing this issue.
