Open clankgeek opened 9 months ago

Problem description

Windows update KB5030211 automatically added the windows backup program.

Proposed solution

remove this bloatware with command: Remove-WindowsPackage -Online -PackageName "Microsoft-Windows-UserExperience-Desktop-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.19041.3393"

Thanks for the suggestion. Adding this would be straightforward. But side effect of losing Emoji Picker is not fun. Seems like Microsoft-Windows-UserExperience-Desktop includes more than Windows Backup 1. I'd appreciate if we can find a less intrusive way.

Currently I would suggest to add the option to disable the task \Microsoft\Windows\AppListBackup\BackupNonMaintenance, as it adds an extra delay before the system shutdown.

A few references:

Should this be included under Remove bloatware or Privacy over security to highlight the security aspect of this? Backups provide additional security.

What do you think?

I have no preference about it.

I would classify it as removing bloatware, personally. It is basically a tool for pushing Microsoft's cloud storage solutions for backup.
