just a personal opinion: I'm not a big fan of using magic when explaining something in Scala - it scares new-comers and enforces the general opinion that Scala is magic.
ex: p. 70:
There is clearly some magic here—Slick is using implicit conversions to build a ProvenShape object from the columns we provided.
