SITS changes required for UG 'How to apply tab' #207

Closed aw285-unikent closed 11 years ago

As SITS project team, EMS

I would like the changes required to the 'How to apply' tab for UG programme pages to be prepared and ready to go live for 2 September.

Changes required are the implementation of:

The design should ensure that users will read the relevant 'how to apply' information currently on the 'How to apply' tab before they apply. For example, info about how students should fill in UCAS form and info telling part-time students they can apply any time.

looking at this but I think we'll need to look at how we present potentially up to 6 links to users so that it makes sense.

@Angelamariewatson will we need a full-time MCR code as well as part-time?

jna-unikent commented 11 years ago

Some more functionality has been added in pull request https://github.com/unikent/of-course/pull/265. What remains are the actual apply links, which we're yet to receive.

Note to also add tracking code to each link before they go live.

mb324-unikent commented 11 years ago

@Angelamariewatson do we have any further info on the apply links?

aw285-unikent commented 11 years ago

Hi sorry, I thought I had replied to your query - I must have not pressed 'comment'. Yes, there are full-time and part-time MCR codes for UG. The difference between how they are used is:

I think Jonathan has been working on design and functionality for this but not sure? If you need any more info, let me know.

mb324-unikent commented 11 years ago

That's ok. Do you know what the actual apply links should be, as in what urls they go to? For UG the layout is pretty simple: we thought it was easiest for people to just have 3 links (or 2) they can click on. It's the PG one that's a bit more complicated...

aw285-unikent commented 11 years ago

Do you mean for UCAS or the links with the MCR codes in them? I think I'd have to ask someone in the SITS team for the latter.

mb324-unikent commented 11 years ago

sorry forget that. We have an email from someone about all this stuff. I'll stick it up on here for info.

Hi Mark and Fritha

As discussed in this morning’s meeting about web links in the tower, please find attached a spreadsheet detailing different URL stem combinations for linking in to the Kent Enquiry System part of the admissions project. These are just for the enquiry and prospectus request side of things.

I have also attached an email I sent to EMSWeb back in June regarding the pages under that umbrella which may need amending (I may not have caught all of them, but took screen shots of the pages I did find).

In the spreadsheet I have provided a main tab with general links and how they are built up, an FAQ category specific tab in case these links are needed anywhere and a tab showing different ways to link to pages where users can self-register.

I’ve also attached a screen shot of the list of publications I currently have against the prospectus request enquiry category, and would be grateful if I could have a final list of what should and shouldn’t be there – as you can see, there is a UG/PG split.

If you have any queries on any of this, please do let me know. Kind regards Karen

@frithassell did you say Karen had asked Michelle for a list of pubs - only she asks us for this above and we wouldn't have this info?

mb324-unikent commented 11 years ago

Sample links, using PADC000101MS-FD as a test MCR code.

frithassell commented 11 years ago

Yes she has asked Michelle for it but not heard back from her yet. I think only Michelle would know which to go on the list - we could only provide the actual publications I guess, perhaps that's why Karen is linking us?

mb324-unikent commented 11 years ago

@Angelamariewatson sorry, do you have the link for UCAS? We're in the process of working out all the other links and I think we're meeting up with Karen this afternoon to double-check we've got it right.

aw285-unikent commented 11 years ago

Hi Matthew, there are two links in the UCAS blurb see:

http://www.kent.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/235/accounting-and-finance#apply as example.

"Full-time applicants (including international applicants) should apply through the [link 1] Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) [link 1] system. If you need help or advice on your application, you should speak with your careers advisor or contact [link 2] UCAS Customer Contact Centre [link 2]. You can also write to UCAS at XXXx "

I think UCAS is down at the moment so I can't check if these links still work but they should do when it's back up.

aw285-unikent commented 11 years ago

OK I think the links may need updating...(I think UCAS own a number of domains but it seems the main one is the .com) so the links should be:

link 1 - http://www.ucas.com/apply link 2 - http://www.ucas.com/about-us/contact-us

I will change this in the programmes plant now.

aw285-unikent commented 11 years ago

For info, just flagging this story https://github.com/unikent/programmes-plant/issues/307 as it also deals with the UG how to apply tab. That story 307 has got a bit long and confusing (with changes along the way) but the final story is the one I added at the very bottom of the thread (it might help to scrap the story and just add a new one with the final post?).

mb324-unikent commented 11 years ago

ok thanks @Angelamariewatson btw are you ok for the UG apply and enquire tabs to be the same as PG. That would mean changing the 'further info' tab into 'enquire' and putting links to order a prospectus and enquire there, and having the apply links separately in the apply tab. Does that sound ok?

aw285-unikent commented 11 years ago

Yes that sounds fine to me

mb324-unikent commented 11 years ago

this is being addressed in pull request #284 it is also linked to https://github.com/unikent/programmes-plant/issues/570 in the programmes-plant repo

mb324-unikent commented 11 years ago

@Angelamariewatson could you check this is all ok now on test. eg try http://www-test.kent.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/1/accounting-and-finance-and-economics

aw285-unikent commented 11 years ago

Hi yes this looks OK to me thanks
