This decision was implemented by me at the production site, checked in commercial operation mode, under the load of 100 calls per day.

However, I do not have confidence in the completeness of the solution because of the lack of experience with c-lang programming

Your pull request has been merged into master (#23ffc6b) with minor changes.

Fixed compilation warnings
The configuration parameter speech-channel-timeout is set in milliseconds from mrcp.conf
Took out legacy definition of SPEECH_CHANNEL_TIMEOUT_USEC
Applied same changes to speech_channel.c
