Existing methods migrating to Platforms #517

Closed nathanshammah closed 1 year ago

These are some Methods that would fall into Platforms under the new schema (they are hardware devices or architectures):

This issue can be closed once the migration is complete. It seems to me from https://metriq.info/Platforms that it is almost done!

@WrathfulSpatula just a reminder that this issue is useful to help guide the users, as it cleans up the rationale behind Platforms/Methods content. Maybe @vprusso can help? Here I began to list the hardware devices for platform migration from methods.

@nathanshammah I'll work on this immediately, while I debug minor issues with the platforms feature release.

@nathanshammah There are still cases where the "method" and "platform" are both rightly equivalent to the "platform," specifically for QV and CLOPS in particular. However, in other benchmark case (like MAXCUT) I replaced the "method" with the appropriate algorithm (QAOA) and keyed to the platform, as well.

I reopen this as the approved definitions for Methods and Platforms revise the choice in the taxonomy. E.g., the methods listed here: https://metriq.info/Submission/125 now fall under Platforms. Same applies to some quantum volume submissions with methods for simulated hardware chips.

I think we addressed that, back in May. (Closing.)
