MacOS version doesn't create bootable drive #3

Open RezzZ opened 5 years ago

RezzZ commented 5 years ago

V1.6 usb-creator for MacOS (I got Mojave 10.14.5 installed) doesn't create a bootable drive. I've tried three times, my miniserver said the drive was not bootable. I then switched to a windows machine, downloaded the windows 1.6 version, created a unraid drive with the same thumbdrive and identical settings and now I do have a bootable drive.

Something seems to be wrong with the MacOS version?

I get "Error: couldn't open '/dev/disk2' when using the utility." I am on OS X 10.15 Catalina.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for letting us know you're having this issue. In the short term, were you able to complete the configuration/install using the backup manual method? https://wiki.unraid.net/UnRAID_6/Getting_Started#Manual_Method_.28Legacy.29

All the best,

Jon

@RezzZ and @patrickrbecker I have V1.7 ready to test: https://s3.amazonaws.com/dnld.lime-technology.com/tools/Unraid.USB.Creator.macOS-1.7.dmg

Also, manual mode fails in Catalina as well:

Manual mode worked for me in catalina, but version 1.6 and 1.7 fail using the GUI in Catalina, I get the same "Error: couldn't open '/dev/disk2' when using the utility."

Both 1.6 and 1.7 also fail in Yosemite. The Yosemite Error is different:

dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/Metal.framework/Versions/A/Metal
Referenced from: /Applications/Unraid USB Creator.app/Contents/MacOS/Unraid USB Creator

On Catalina, I had the same error: "Error: couldn't open '/dev/disk2' when using the utility."

The process cannot be completed because the file "syslinux" is not from an identified developer.

Error message:

“syslinux” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.

The work around is to run the the script once, and it will terminate with an error: /tmp/UNRAID/syslinux/make_bootable_mac.sh: line 53: 3212 Killed: 9

With Finder, go in the newly folder /tmp/UNRAID/syslinux then right-click syslinux file -> Open.

The following message will prompt: “syslinux” is a Unix app downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it? Click open.

Then re-execute the make_bootable_mac script and the process should complete normally.

Just ran into this myself. Given how long this issue has been open for it may be worth at least adding something to the documentation to acknowledge the open issue.
