Probably the best solution is to launch a beta channel for those who want the latest features. Would that be good with you?
+1 for beta channel
No, I need to improve Mac App Store receipt check on Demo version (= improve latest features). I think Demo version equal beta version. PopClip – HockeyApp and MarsEdit improves Mac App Store receipt check.
Interesting. Both the PopClip and MarsEdit demos I looked at aren't sandboxed like Maxel's demo is, hence why they can get away with checking their app store receipt. In order to do that I'd have to drop the sandbox in the demo. I'd rather avoid diverging the codebases so much.
I still think a beta channel is superior because will get you access to features sooner than the demo.
From now on I'll be posting new versions less often than a month and batching features into major releases (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc), in order to allow reviews to flow in. The demo will also have the same update cycle so that customers don't get held back and demo users don't miss features they got used to as they upgrade to paid.
I will be updating the demo at the same time that I release the mac app, which means there will a 3-7 day delay between the demo and the MAS. But with a Beta channel, I can launch features continuously.
There are a handful of other reasons why having both Maxel Demo and Maxel installed simultaneously doesn't work very well (for instance I still get a lot of support requests for people having issues with LaunchServices getting confused with the maxel:// protocol) as well.
I understand your policy. I think to use better TestFlight on Mac App Store.
Testflight seems to be iOS only at the moment. I was going to use HockeyApp unless there's a better alternative. HockeyApp allows beta testers to register for email notifications when new versions come out
Sent out beta invites to you two and a handful of other users I've been in touch with. 2.1 will ship with a link to signup for the beta.
