Itzel is one of the oldest gym leaders in all of Mazah (probably around his 60s or maybe even in his 70s or 80s), being a direct descendant of the Katalu. After the conflict between the two tribes, his family had been entrusted with entombing the legendaries. Since then they’ve stayed deep within the jungle around the swamps, the place where Hylarmos once made its territory in the past. Eventually, they became renowned for being skilled poison-type users and were one of the first lineages to establish themselves as type specialist leaders, setting the precedent for the gym challenge system in the rest of Mazah. Being the only currently living direct descendant of his family (and potentially also the last as Itzel likely wouldn’t have any family or children of his own), Itzel bears a strong burden over his shoulders due to responsibilities but remains loyal to his duty.
