the extern/ folder can go; it contains supporting files for the javascript package, which is not produced from this repo.
similarly package.json in the root of the repo is for the js package.

appveyor.yml and build/ can ultimately go, as uon-nuget builds are done by Travis CI, not Appveyor. but these may want to wait until the final travis.yml is in place.
the docs folder may or may not still be useful. needs investigating.
