Any more details about RealESRGAN_General_WDN_x4_v3 ? #12

I have not found much about this model, but in my tests it works better than the "normal" x4 variant, and better than the "plus" variant as well. It notably preserves fine texture details while the other RealESRGAN x4 tend to just filter out everything.

Anyone got details on exactly what "wide and deep network model" means, given the model is the same size as the non-WDN one ?

It's a smaller model that's supposed to be 'Real-ESRGAN Lite'

That's why it's mentioned as (Fast) in Upscayl.

The "fast" model is different: it filters fine details away, while the WDN one does not. AFAICT there are 3 "fast" Real-ESRGAN with the same model size.

The difference is most noticeable on skin, snow, fine fabric like velvet, etc. where WDN recreates that detail, while the others just output a smooth gradient.
