Huge CPU usage because of 1820-psi-fix-online-contact-count.diff

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start psi-plus
2. Wait a bit until all connects have settled
3. Watch psi-plus cpu usage in top

What is the expected output?
Little CPU usage, way below 5% when nothing happens.

What do you see instead?
CPU usage permanent between 25% and 40% on my 1.8ghz Core-Duo lapop.
(6 jabber accounts active, around 500 contacts for all of them, with around 150 
contacts online at the moment, more over the day)

What version of the Psi+/OS are you using?
psi-plus 3280 was ok, 3293 showed the problem on my tests first.
Latest test done with 3396
Running on Linux Debian Unstable with all updates current, updated more or less 
daily.

Additional information:
I finally found the time to look deeper into the changes which happened between 
3280 and 3293 when the CPU-usage problem started for me, trying different 
things - at the end reverting patch 1820-psi-fix-online-contact-count.diff on 
the current version 3396 fixes the problem for me, idle cpu usage again <1% as 
it was before this problem.

So while patch 1820 may fix the online contact count it has a very bad 
sideffect on cpu usage and thus laptop battery lifetime.
