High CPU usage by X while running Psi+ #520

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Can be reproduced both with trunk version and 0.15.5268-webkit.

Environment:

Gentoo
Linux kernel 3.3.8
X.Org X Server 1.12.2
KDE 4.8.3 with running compositing window manager.
Qt 4.8.2

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start Psi+
2. Leave it alone for a long while (e.g. for a night).
3. You'll see GUI freezes and delayed responses to input (keyboard, mouse).
Htop (or top) will report about 90-100% jf CPU load.
4. Terminate Psi+ and CPU load by X will decreased.

Expected result: no GUI freezes and high CPU loads.

Additonal info: animation for tray icon is turned on.

Can you first update to the latest ppa version and then do bugreports?

[14:08:57] <machekku> oh and btw, I read somewhere that kde did a rewrite of
system tray to use QML (or QtQuick, or something like this).
[14:09:04] <machekku> maybe new tray has a problem
[14:09:46] <machekku> I have KDE 4.9.4

All the same for me. That was on KDE 4.6, 4.7, 4.8 and now are in KDE 4.9, so
it is not KDE tray issue.
Animated icon causes 100% CPU utilization.

BTW. The same issue was in IceWM 4 years ago. Seems like X.org issue.

It's KDE or Xorg or fglrx bug. I have same issues with every animating icon in
tray. Such as connecting skype, kde notification etc. And just tray resizing
(don't know why it does it about one-two times a hour).

It is the bug in KDE system tray:
