--> search for other comparable datasets
--> look for city-specific datasets for SF and Seattle
--> try http://us-cities.survey.okfn.org
@timathomas I started exploring ways to replace TOXMAP data, and noticed in our research memo that the data we were using originally included both Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) sites and Superfund sites. For Seattle, I found TRI spatial data by county here and Superfund spatial data for all of Washington State that can be filtered by county here. Would combining two data sources like this be an approach you're interested in? We'd mainly have to make sure that similar Superfund data exists in other states besides Washington.
Anna to download TRI data for old SPARCC sites and compare this data source to TOXMAP
If it looks good, download for Cleveland/Boston/Seattle/SF/LA
Tested for Atlanta: if we used this it would be a much more minimal coverage of industrial sites, but it does a decent job of covering the region broadly (see map here: https://annacd114.carto.com/builder/bf1511d3-a0fb-48b8-bfd8-6a9c80371b3c/embed)
Submitted datasets for Seattle, SF, LA, Cleveland, Boston to Tim for review
Will map these to confirm. Placed in data/inputs. @annacd114 is there a national version or do they need to be downloaded per city? Sorry if you mentioned this already.
@timathomas Yes, it can be downloaded nationally from that same site. Thanks Tim!
@annacd114 let's go ahead and download the nation so we can archive it in case it disappears like the previous one. Sorry, should have asked that before.
Pushed industrial data to master
The national dataset only shows LA, need to redownload the nation
Need some RA help on this @profkdc
Current status is that the "industrial.shp" set of files in our Overlays folder contains spatial data from TOXMAP of toxic sites only for Atlanta/Chicago/Denver/Memphis. Now that TOXMAP is defunct, we will not be able to download new spatial data from there for additional sites like SF and Seattle. Should we try to find some other data source to use from now on since this one is no longer an option?
