Question: Why do the nodes have 2 handles on the right hand side #10

I am new to Node Red so this is most likely a really basic question.

Why are there two "handles" on the right of the nodes? It seems that the top handle is the only one that actually does anything and if I link to the bottom node nothing seems to happen.

I looked at the code and figured it out, looks like the second one is for errors.
