Output plots or raster files (or both?) #12

The current version of the pipeline saves outputs as .png files of maps produced with ggplot2. Is that the desired output, or should the output be some kind of raster format (e.g. .tiff) that can be used as inputs to other geospatial workflows?

Main output is the data of the mean DOY over the normals period for different thresholds. @jeffswitzer—any particular filetype or GDAL driver you'd like me to use when exporting these rasters?
