Can't use it directly on MathML element

Is there a way to use IntroJS directly on any MathML element? like this <math id="step1">.....</math>

Currently, I can only put the mathml element in a div to use it, like this <div id="step1"><math>.....</math></div> but this will make the contents of the mathml scatters in various divs.
