That will not work that easily. We can not easily remove subdomains and we don't want to remove them or? Old links? Old citations?

for the broken link part, could we have a redirect from imaging.usegalaxy.eu to image.usegalaxy.eu?

Redirects are feasible, see usegalaxy-eu/infrastructure-playbook#939.
