solution: must activate the PCIe x1 slot on the raspberry pi in the config files. can be completed by pasting:
sudo nano /boot/firmware/config.txt
to enter the config file with necessary permissionsdtparam=pciex1
at the bottom of the file to activate the PCIe slotctrl+x
to exit file, y
to confirm, enter
to save with same name and pathtest: solution can be tested to confirm if the PCIe device is now readable by using lspci to get a detailed output of the PCIe devices & you can follow this up with lsblk (checks the drives) if you have sata ssds plugged in already.
