Data viz IG story #145

Due: Fall 2019 (latest end of October)

Data viz IG story to be released this fall. Could be any viz that the team creates over the next few months. Please reach out to Mario to let him know when the team has identified a story that might be interesting in the following format:

**_Emily and I would like to start creating @USGS_Streamgage instagram stories like nasa does (their stories are really good).

I thought that a good one would be to tell a story about data vizzies. It would consist of 5-10 photos which could come from screenshots put together to tell the story of how you go about creating a data viz. The photos would begin and end with text screens and there could be some text on individual photos as needed. I think an awesome data viz to do it for would be the 2018 streamgage conditions. An example would be:

  1. Potentially photo of you, or data viz team photo Text: "meet Lindsay Carr, or the team behind creating awesome data vizzies using streamgage data"
  2. screenshot of data. text: "x data points or data is collected from x gages nationwide which are timestamped"
  3. screenshot of R code. Text "The program R is used to code a sequence of how to interpret the data"
  4. Screenshot of the map of the U.S. with the surrounding graphics like the calendar circle. Text: " the underlying graphics are coded"
  5. Screenshot of streamgages geographically coded on the map graphics. Text: The streamgage data is combined with the visual graphics.
  6. Screenshot of R code. Text "code is written to run the time stamped and geo-located data on the R coded graphics.
  7. Video of Data viz. Text: "Bam! An awesome data viz!"

The story would end up as a story highlight on the profile. I have created a google doc which we can use to move this idea forward. Feel free to modify the steps, while keeping the text very brief. Add the screenshots for each step, and I will crop and resize the for 16:9 mobile screens.

Ugh, we dropped the ball on this one. The due date deadline is long past.
