water use: make the map bigger on desktop/laptop view #674

Closed mhines-usgs closed 3 years ago

currently we made it so that on a laptop, the map and the barchart below with seasons both appear, but we got a lot of feedback that the map was too small and people wanted to zoom in.

So we've decided that it should be bigger at least on non-mobile devices.

Can we make the map bigger even if it cuts off the entire view of the US on the page? Lindsay suggests that if the map is cut off, you're more likely to scroll down anyway, so we might as well take up more space and make the map bigger per the feedback.

Are we not concerned about having to scroll up and down to switch between the Water Use Parameter and then the seasons?

mhines-usgs commented 3 years ago

correct, we are conceding that fact at this point and trying to better fill the screen with something bigger..

mwernimont commented 3 years ago

Another question, is it just the map we are enlarging? Bar chart stays the same?

mhines-usgs commented 3 years ago

we really only talked about enlarging the map view on desktop mode, but if you feel like after you adjust the map, if that it seems weird along with the existing smaller bar chart, I'd say make that bigger too? Any opinion @lindsayplatt ?

lindsayplatt commented 3 years ago

No opinion right now. I'd agree that it may be more about what it looks like visually.

i like it (up on test now http://wbeep-test-website.s3-website-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/estimated-availability/#/water-use) but now i kinda want the chart bigger. why am i squinting for that tiny font on the x-axis 😆
