With the increase in seismic activity near Hawaii, we have been getting lots of emails from users suggesting that we allow users to suppress the warning that viewing more than 2,000 earthquakes may cause problems.
I agree that the warning is annoying (it interrupts the user flow), but any form of implementation to address the problem would raise additional questions. Do we show the warning again for feeds above 3,000 earthquakes? how about above 4,000 earthquakes? I personally know I cannot view the "7 Days, All Magnitudes U.S." feed (my browser locks up).
Also, do we use cookies or localStorage anywhere on our site to store user session data? It looks like according to USGS Privacy Policy we can store cookies as long as we do not store PII.
This ticket is mainly to start a discussion.
