@rjmackay We have plans to support that.
Add OSM, MapBox tiles support
Awesome!
@rjmackay Still have your old android phone? I would love for you to test on it for me when I get to the testing phase.
yea.. its seriously resource strained but I can give the app a spin when the upgrade is out
Adding support for OSM as a baselayer is important as points created over the google maps baselayer could be interpretted as a derivative work of GMaps. If the user later wanted to add these data points in to OSM they wouldn't be able to do so.
Discussion from skype:
[8/03/13 11:31:03 AM] Cédric Moro: We have a problem of copyright because OSM layers are not available in the Ushahidi mobile app. If someone makes a point on Google map via Ushahidi mobile app and if we want to add this point like an information for OSM, it will be a problem. [8/03/13 11:32:09 AM] Cédric Moro: Is it previous to add OSM layers in the Ushahidi mobile app pls ? Or maybe, it could be mu Ushahidi version which is too old. [8/03/13 11:33:09 AM] Robbie MacKay: Hi Cedric, I'm not sure I see the problem. The mobile app uses google maps as a baselayer, but data is submitted through the app is sent directly to your Ushahidi install. I wouldn't think Google has any copyright claim over it. [8/03/13 11:35:54 AM] Cédric Moro: Hi Robbie. thanks for your answer.I'll transmit it. In our area, we are making a lot of efforts to have a good map of the city but, if OSM is not available in the mobile app, it's not good. I know all the Ushahidi dev team do his best. So it's just to add an information on the dev project. Thanks again. [8/03/13 11:37:10 AM] Mikel Maron: yea, there's a question of copyright there. Can be interpretted as a derivative work of GMaps. OSM is pretty conservative about this. [8/03/13 11:38:05 AM] Robbie MacKay: @Mikel thanks for that clarification.. It would definitely be better to have OSM on the app anyway.. if nothing else, just for consistency
