Ability to turn off contributions - globally or for an individual record #102

This would be the ability for moderators to suspend a particular type of contribution globally or for an individual record -- when the system is being subject to spam or abuse.

I could see this especially for comments, for individual records. If there's some sort of record that is subject to too much attention and gets abuse or spammed (like locked pages on Wikipedia when the topic gets too hot).

I've been wondering about this possibility and wanted to ask you guys about this! I think this is a really good idea. Already, I'm thinking about the JFK Assassination Records and the potential for the conspiracy theorists and how we can mitigate the risk of things spiraling out of control.

I wanted to +1 this suggestion as well. With Nixon Tapes, there is an increased likelihood for virtual graffiti and malicious behavior. I think having the contribution areas open with the possibility of locking them down at the point of spam or abuse merges the best practices of assumed openness/participation with responsible moderation.
