One idea that was brought up at some point is whether we could allow users to save drafts of transcriptions without publishing them. We would need to think a bit about design. I think it would be important to:

Have a dynamic list in the user's account where they can see all their saved drafts
Allow users to delete saved drafts
Notify users before they publish a saved draft if if the version they were editing has changed (so they don't overwrite someone else's work without ever seeing it)

I'm thinking this would not be good to implement. It introduces complexity to the transcription process -- and potential overwrites. Are you thinking about this in terms of API implications? I would prioritize this type of feature really low at this point.

I agree this is a low priority; we have more basic needs now.

I do think the potential for overwriting can be handled in the interface. With millions of records, there will be a low risk of conflict to begin with, but as long as the system is able to warn users of conflicts before they save, I think users can self-correct. It would be nice to get there eventually.
