Create a Stable (-ish) Branch #20

Closed creuzige closed 2 years ago

Since we are starting to get external users, I think it makes sense to create a stable branch. I'm not sure where to try and branch from, but likely somewhere around the presentation.

Do we think the external users will use via a Docker container? Or build a conda environment on their own computer? (Either way, I am wondering how to prevent Gsas updates every time a new container or conda environment is built.)

(If we share via a web app -- which I know is a no-no until approval -- we at least can control when the container will be rebuilt, but for sharing source I'm not quite sure)

I don't know what they'll do, nor how unstable GSAS-II would be after updates. Things are running for me again from the DebugDash branch, so maybe we just rename that branch?

dnewton600 commented 2 years ago

That's totally fine with me assuming we think the fitting procedure is working OK on the branch. How did you fix the 'patching for Big Sur' bug?

creuzige commented 2 years ago

It seems to be ok... Or at least no different than what we presented...

The patching for Big Sur may have been waiting for me to interact with the program. More PEBCAC errors.

Weird!

And hopefully either way we are close to having another sharable version on the main branch..
