The conformance checking script was not detecting differences when comparing a particular image that had NA values produced (i.e., an error occurred) in one run and no NA values (i.e., no error) in a subsequent run.

Other improvements:

Make determining the basename faster (no temporaries)
Change to support determining basename under Windows

This found differences that would not have otherwise been found in #309.
