This PR builds on the restructuring in the mdata-layout-new branch to accomplish three goals:

consolidate all editing functions into a single module: landing/editcontrol.module; this moves a lot of logic out of the LandingComponent and shared modules.
integrate the new MetadataService framework and further standardized the access to metadata
enable a consistent and error-free management of the app on both the server and the browser sides.
