A utility to trace parameter settings back to a catalog could be a useful thing.... you would feed an SSP, get back a map of parameters defined and set, and where, within the profile resolution stack.
This would not be a full 'forensic resolution' showing you any rendering of controls, but simply a tracer for parameters required by a profile (presumably the top-level profile of a given SSP or set of SSPs).
I can think of a couple of ways to do this but will hold back on that unless there are particular questions (and maybe someone will beat me to it).
