Mock-up "Get Help" option on site #1705

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

We're seeing in the Touchpoints survey that people often put "support" issues into the survey form, even though there are other ways to reach out. This leads to questions that we could otherwise solve or help the community with quickly if it were to come into one of our realtime support channels (or if we had their contact information!). This means that people aren't getting support or successful outcomes when using the design system or looking on the design system website for documentation.

Describe the solution you'd like

After discussing this behavioral pattern, the core team proposed having a single, clear "contact page" that lists the different venues for contact (slack, email, github) and having it more prominently displayed on the design system homepage and/or site with a simple call to action: "get help."

Describe alternatives you've considered

-Chat box on the site (requires a lot of support)

Additional context

No response

This would also help you meet the TTS requirements for a "Contact Us" link on every page. Right now, without getting a specific exception added to the scanning engine, the Get support [Email the USWDS team] link is not getting picked up and you're being incorrectly failed on that point. Obviously not the highest priority (communicative contact us language) but still a consideration.

@jonadecker thanks for that note!

So to be fully compliant, we just need to change the Get support [email] to Contact Us?

jonadecker commented 2 years ago

You have a couple of options. Contact us is automatically detected, so it's an easy pass. If it's not the right language for your site, you should ask for an exception (which is really just an additional scanning rule "also accept 'this language'". I can connect with you on how to request that offline.

I will look at the report and see what other things you might have spurious fails on...~I think there were two items, one of which was Contact us.~ Only the one. And it sounds like Dan has taken care of getting the scan exception in place.
