Landscape analysis for Web Components

The USWDS team is interested in finding out how other design systems have implemented Web Components. What are the existing approaches? What can we learn from them?

• Find demonstrations of good documentation for Web Components.
• Learn more about how other design systems balance out-of-the-box solutions with flexible, customizable solutions.
• Discover how other design systems have implemented Web Component when it comes to: Structure, Distribution, Token Naming, and Performance

I began a rough draft of the WC landscape analysis spreadsheet which I am collaborating with the dev team on (particularly Amy L). We're defining how to structure it and what to capture. @amyleadem is piloting the spreadsheet by documenting Web Components across multiple design systems for the accordion component. Doing this "dry run" will help give shape to the landscape analysis approach.

Once it is further defined, we will divide up the work of documenting across the development team - for instance, we may assign a specific component to a specific developer to document across all the categories we identify in the landscape analysis spreadsheet.

The work has been divided up among the dev team and they're filling out the spreadsheet as well as documenting any thing they want to note in the WC landscape analysis Mural board.

We'll use the Engineering Working Session on 8/30 to work through the board to pull out insights and possible next steps.
