unable to find a route over causeway linking Singapore and Malaysia #31

I tried to route from Esso Woodlands Road (singapore) to KSL City Mall but received an error message "Error: cannot find a route for given points. Maybe try to move them closer to roads?" (if allow_ferries is set to false)

However, profiles like Trekking, Fastbike, Fastbike-verylowtraffic have no problem.

Any idea what is causing this?

Hi,

thanks for reporting this The border is very complex, and I have tried to look into this.

One question: Does the trekking profile generate a valid route for you? When I try it it goes through a barrier=gate (which is not marked with any access rules, so it might be closed) and also against the oneway street over the entire bridge

Second question: Does a valid route even exist? Almost every street through the border is tagged bicycle=no and foot=no If I go into JOSM, exclude every road with bicycle=no and then every road with foot=no where you are also not allowed to push no connections seem left to cross, except for a single footway that ends with no connections and dead on the left: Screenshot_20211013_102914

On the offical website both graphhopper and OSRM in bike mode seem to confirm that with the current tagging no way through the border for bikes exists: Screenshot_20211013_102601 Screenshot_20211013_102550

I think this is either a problem of reality: it is not allowed, or of the tagging: the path bikes can take is not in the dataset or accidentally tagged as bicycle=no

There is a valid route.

Bicycles are allowed on the causeway. Clearance is via the manual motorcycle lanes. This is the route that we cyclist take to malaysia if we are not taking the ferry.

I think you may be right about it not being in the dataset. I will try to raise an edit in open street maps for it.

Yes the tagging does allow that, and my profile would also take this route as far as possible
Unfortunately there are only two streets leading up to it:
one motorway_link, which I treat as Motorway and do not use https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/708727405 And one street that is explicitly forbidden for bicycles https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/29480567

If one of those is incorrectly tagged editing one of those with a bicycle=yes would fix the issue!

The road to use is trunk road: woodlands crossing https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/134996391

You can access it via woodlands road: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/253936681 (most cyclist use this option due to the meeting point before crossing over) or woodlands center road: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/480459779 then https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/535322263 (essentially the bus r160 routing when taking this road)

https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/29480567 is wrongly tagged. I will request a change to open street maps
