Removable floppy drive not readable by old guest OS #2730

Open conath opened 3 years ago

conath commented 3 years ago

A floppy image that reads fine if imported into the UTM VM will cause read error when used in a removable floppy drive.

UTM VM window with the title OpenStep shows a read error while booting from the floppy drive.

Configuration

Debug log debug.log

VM including floppy image OpenStep.zip

I am following this guide and adapting it to UTM. The install files are from here.

It might be worth noting that I don't believe this bug is new in 2.2.0 – I believe I've seen this before.

Seeing the same thing in v2.4.1. Admittedly OpenStep isn't a high priority.

Seeing the same thing in 3.0.3b with Rhapsody DR2 on i386. As a result, there's no way to install, as DR2 requires initial boot off a boot floppy, then ejecting that floppy and replacing it with a driver floppy in the same drive.

Also seeing it in 3.0.4b with Rhapsody DR2 on i386. Also, an ejectable floppy is listed as a CD/DVD in the interface, not a floppy disk, and the run order is wrong (ordered in image list as floppy, CD, HD):

I've seen both problems mentioned here when trying to install Rhapsody DR2 under UTM version 3.2.4 (58). Floppy only works if not marked removable. This prevents installation since it's necessary to switch floppies.

I'd recommend filing a separate bug report for the second problem here:
