Display Resolution HiDPI has no effect on Linux virtual machines #4700

Describe the issue
The HiDPI checkbox on Display Resolution seems to have no effect with Apple Virtualization

Configuration

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a VM in UTM using Apple Virtualization
  2. Change display resolution to 1440x900 and check HiDPI box
  3. Install Ubuntu and KDE, or preferred desktop environment

Observed Behavior The resolution appears in the guest as 1440x900 and is blurry

Expected Behavior HiDPI enabled, basically the resolution presented to the guest should be doubled.

Workaround Uncheck HiDPI box and double resolution. For example, set resolution to 2880x1800 and inside the guest set scaling factor 200% to achieve sharp and crisp look.

It seems to only affect macOS virtual machines. I’m not sure how that display information is sent to that guest but only macOS seems to react to it.
