Change profiling mode from boolean to string #239

I'm having some problem configuring the tests to run on my local machine, this PR will be delayed for while. Meanwhile feel free to add your commits @domoritz and reopen it :)

I'm sure you know this, but just a note: these changes so far do not fix the ability to submit queries with profiling enabled in developer mode.
