Grading and Proctors #26

Two questions - I'm new to the AMath program so I was wondering about a couple of things.

Grading - is grading for this class done based purely on raw scores, and if so, is there a grading scale that is used? Or are grades curved?

Proctors - will EDGE students need a local (to us) proctor for the final exam?

Some sort of normalization will be done. That is, if everyone gets 50% on the homework and quizzes then the person who performs the best, even if their raw score is low, will have a grade in the 3.8-4.0 range.

Proctors - will EDGE students need a local (to us) proctor for the final exam?

The EDGE program handles those logistics. You should contact someone from the program for details. From what I understand they will arrange a proctor and testing location for each EDGE student.

You can read more about the instructor's perspective on grading here.

The online students need to find a proctor and have them approved by EDGE (there are forms for doing this on the EDGE site). Once approved, your proctor is good for the academic year (this being the last quarter makes that moot). Then you can schedule your exam time with your proctor directly and the expectation is that the instructor has sent the exam to the EDGE office prior and they forward it on to all the online student's proctors prior to the exam date, or the day of at least. When you show up to your proctor, they should have the exam and they will administer it to you - then they will send the completed exam back to EDGE. I use a local community college that has a testing center - they charge $20 per test. All of this is needed only if the professor is having the Final as an actual in class exam, so I would like that to be clarified prior to me arranging for a proctor. Is that the case professor? There will be an in class Final on June 7th as currently stated on the syllabus, or is that subject to change still? Thanks

Can local students (who live in the Puget Sound area) come to campus to take the final exam? I was able to do this for AMATH501.

@shinwookang If you are in a non-EDGE then you are expected to show in person. Those in EDGE sections should confirm with the EDGE / PCE program. It's fine with me as far as I know.

@cswiercz I'm an EDGE student, but I'll come to class for the final exam. Thank you.
